Roping SaddlesBelow are new and used roping saddles, often several hundred to choose from. The two most common styles of riggings found in modern roping saddles are "full rigged" and "7/8 rigged" and we explain both of these terms at the bottom of the page. About Roping Saddle RiggingsThere are two types of riggings typically found in modern roping saddles: "Full rigged" and "7/8 rigged." With both of these styles the rigging is directly below, or almost directly below, the swells or pommel of the roping saddle. The rigging in these positions allows for better leverage and better handling of cattle when roped. Other, older styles of riggings (such as center fired) place the rigging farther back and are poorly suited for roping. Because a roping saddle that is full-rigged or 7/8 rigged places the front cinch close to the front of the saddle, almost all roping saddles have a second cinch, called a back cinch, to keep the back end of the saddle from rising up when roping or riding on uneven ground.
