Women's Leather Chaps

Ladies, we're not trying to annoy you but very few of the chaps you see below are specifically described by the sellers as "women's" chaps. That's because most eBay sellers won't use the terms "women's," "ladies," "cowgirls," etc. when describing their chaps even when the chaps are definitely suitable or even made for women. Nevertheless, you will find that a large percentage of the chaps listed are for women, either for show or for work on the ranch. The vast majority of them are made from leather, suede, or ultrasuede, but once in a while you will also find chaps made from other materials.

About Women's Chaps

• What are the chaps made of? Typically, women's chaps are made of leather. They can also be made of suede (a type of leather), ultrasuede (a synthetic material), or other materials. Work chaps for women are generally made of leather while show chaps are frequently made of suede or ultrasuede.
  • Leather makes the most durable chaps when compared to suede or ultrasuede. Leather chaps are well-suited to hard use for ranch type work and conditions.
  • Suede is leather that has had the surface specially manufactured to create a nap instead of a smooth finish. Suede chaps are usually used for showing instead of being used has a working chap because suede does not stand up to dirt, manure, etc. as well as regular leather. Suede chaps are usually very attractive and soft and frequently have long, beautiful fringe.
  • Ultrasuede (sometimes also spelled ultra suede, ultra-suede, etc.) is not made of leather. Instead, it is a man-made, non-woven material made of micro fibers. Most items made from Ultrasuede can be machine washed or dry cleaned. However, you should always follow the manufacture's directions for cleaning and also realize that some items found on Ultrasuede chaps such as buckles, conchos, or even the fringe may mean the chaps cannot be machine washed.
• Is there a spur slit at the bottom of the chaps to accommodate a rider wearing spurs? Do you care?
• If the women's chaps you are looking at are used, is the fringe in good condition?
• What size are the chaps? Try to get actual inch measurements instead of generic size labels.
